10. Little People, Big Problem - Your Vote, Your Voice

Vote for the climate. Stop new coal mines. Save 4.7 billion+ tonnes CO2e

Lego sculpture of #stopadani protestors and climate change protestors

Thanks to our twenty-year feud about climate change, Australia's emissions continue to rise. We can't afford it. The world has already warmed by an average of 1 degree Celsius. Ice sheets are melting. Sea levels are rising. We're seeing apocalyptic bushfires, storms, droughts and polar vortexes. If we don't act fast, catastrophic climate change will be irreversible.

And yet a project like the Adani coal mine receives government approval. That mine could emit 4.7 billion tonnes of CO2e and open up a brand new coal basin that will emit even more.

This terrifies lobby groups like #StopAdani. Why not join them?

While you're at it, divest. Ask your bank, share companies, insurer and super fund if they invest in coal or if they invest in companies that invest in coal. If they can't give you a definite 'no', switch to a better investment. Your planet is your future.

Write to your newspaper about pulling out of fossil fuel. Call talkback radio. Speak up on social media. Let everyone know it's time to decarbonise the economy.

There'll be a federal election soon. Contact your local politicians and new candidates. Ask what they're doing about climate change. Accept no bullshit. Tell them you will Vote for the Climate. It's the only issue that matters.

It's not too late. We can avoid the worst of the damage, but only if we act now.

Do five things right now, before you forget. What are you waiting for?
